A few weeks ago a friend of mine came over to my apartment to play some video games. This friend in particular has been a good buddy of mine for years and he’s also someone I’ve been playing video games with for as long as I can remember. I know his skill set inside and out when it comes to game play and it’s because if this insight, that I noticed something different when we were playing this day. Even though I had the best router for gaming that money could buy, my friend was kicking my tail in speed that day.

I normally don’t drink very often, but this day was different. My friend brought over a case of beer this day and we began drinking, but I was drinking way more than him. We were on 2 different networks, but the router I was using, was much faster than his. Even with all of this extra power, my friend was slaying me with regard to game play speed. I know it was the beer because as soon as I sobered up the next day, It was business as usual as I defeated his every game play challenge.

You are headed to a dinner party at a new acquaintance and are picking a bottle of wine to bring along. No one wants to show up empty-handed, but choosing the right wine brands to bring along can be a puzzling endeavor.

If you are not sure what kind of wine your hostess likes best, picking the best one to bring can be stressful. Wine brands are such a personal preference that the one you may enjoy may not be enjoyable for the person receiving the bottle.

No need to stress about it. The hostess will be delighted that you were so thoughtful in not coming empty-handed they won’t care what wine brands you chose. Bring the one that you like most and let them know that it is one of your favorites. They will just be honored to open up the bottle of wine and share a glass with you.

Every year around Father’s Day we are asked if we can make recommendations for luxury gift baskets for men. It really isn’t an easy process, given men have such a wide variety of interests. A golf related gift basket as an example would be perfect for many men, but my father has never played a round of golf in his life. Wine is a common choice, but so many people know so little about wine that it makes it hard to make firm recommendations. One thing we do suggest in every case though is that people learn a bit about the products they might be including. Many consumers know about Robert Mondavi winery, but when selecting a wine do they understand how Mondavi makes their wine and which wines are more expensive than others from the winery? It’s not necessary, but it does help to make sure you’re finding the best use of your gift giving money.
